This year Microsoft has not released anything significant to the Windows Phone 8 and it was about time to release an update.

The update named GDR3 (General Distribution Release) should begin its distribution in the coming weeks and seems that few visual aspects were changed.

The GDR3 update brings several hardware improvements, bug fixes and screen support between 5 and 7 inches with fixed resolution up to 1080p (Full HD) allowing more space for apps on the home screen.

Microsoft has announced that the update won't be provided for all tablets.

The update also brings a Driving Mode option that disables some notifications when you connect the bluetooth car, for example. The GDR3 also provides better management of storage categories and is now also possible to close individual applications in Windows Phone 8 multitasking menu.
