You are not getting official updates because Samsung hasnt released them . They are still releasing Oreo Beta's (just released a 4th) and there is a Pie One UI release (leaked from the beta program) but the initial 8.0.0 release is the only stable release the carriers here are providing as of now . Samsung is holding off (alledgedly) updates in an attempt to block 3rd party periphereals from accessing there dex software .

As for the bootloader which one don't know ,but it's locked non rooted phone. It's AT&T carrier unlocked and not getting any ota updates for sure... Yes the phone is snapdragon variant (835) as mentioned above.

We're not sure, but it's probably the same screen.

It seems to have an antenna socket in the corner between the GPS and Wifi internal antennas. External antenna connection?

Agreed. Other than the screen the iPhones cheap garbage in terms of hardware but it does kick androids #@#@*! in system resource management. I mean look at them literally half what modern Android devices in terms of RAM and yet they still run with the best . If all things were equal the Android device should be twice as good at least but nobodies making that claim. Androids Java roots coming back to burn it. Still Android isn't responsible for that lame notch. I hate that stupid notch so much . The only thing that's worse is when Android devices copy that dumb #@#@*!. That alone is a deal breaker.

Which bootloader ? And you are talking the snapdragon variant right ? Did you have a service provider ? I don't know if the unlocked ones get updated ....that's usually up to the carrier unless it's a whole new api .

I wish I'd seen this before buying the UK version (XT1955-4) because it doesn't have NFC.

For god sake remove 2,4Ghz from wifi description... Phone support A ,A standard,it is a standard that support up to 54MB/s (if support AC/AN than more) but it work on 5Ghz frequency.
